| | | | | KC 3&2 Baseball Bat Bat Requirements | | | | by
posted 02/23/2012 All,
There has been a lot of confusion about the new rules that we put out in regard to bats. Since the sale at Dick's is this Saturday, I decided Wednesday night to just go by Dick's and look at the rack of bats that was on display. I also talked to the salesman who handles this and I would like to explain to all of you where we stand on this issue and try to bring some clarity to this question. First of all when I talk about youth I mean from the Rookie League up through and including the Midget A. When I talk High School I mean the Junior Program. In regard to the High School, the new High School rule that is going around everywhere is that the High School age players must use the BBCOR .50 bat. Therefore this will be mandatory in our Junior Program for the up and coming year.
In regard to the youth, the Rookie league through the Midget A, there is some confusion as to what the approved bat is. I think what people originally thought was that the BBCOR stamp was on the youth bats. It is not on the youth bats. I went and looked at Dick's through all of their bats for youth and you will not fine the BBCOR stamp on any of these bats. What the youth bats is the USSSA 1.15 BPF Certified. These bats have a 2 1/4 or 2 5/8 barrel. The bats are little league approved and they must carry the 1.15 BPF Certified. This is not the same as the BBCOR. I hope this alleviates the confusion on that issue.
The other questions that has been raised by a couple of e-mails is whether or not a player in the youth division must have this 1.15 BPF Certified for this year. We are having a board meeting next Wednesday night and I'm going to recommend that we do a moratorium for one year because this is something that came out new this year but I think by next year it is going to be mandatory that we use these 1.15 BPF Certified bats in the youth division. I will keep you all advised after we have the meeting Wednesday and try to post something by Thursday. However, if you are in the market to buy a bat, it makes absolutely no sense not to buy the USSSA 1.15 BPF Certified bat because that is the way of the future and that is what is going happen in little league baseball. In regard to the High School kids, namely the Junior program, the new bats are mandatory this year.
